Brief

This project is focused on designing a product related to “light” and making a functional prototype out of real materials.

“What kind of light will you shine upon the world?”

Think about

The first sunlight in the morning

The setting sun between the rocks

The light through the gap of the door

The second when the pirate opens a treasure box…

I want to convey

Hope

Exploration

Surprise

Mystery

Through this lamp.

“Light From The Gap” is an atmosphere lamp that could warm up people with its imperfection and strong vitality. The contrast of different brightness and materials evoke curiosity and exploration.

Story Behind

The Birth, Destruction, and Rebirth of the City

We live in the city that always lightens up. The glorious group of buildings could not tolerate the slightest imperfection. The lights from these buildings don’t warm people up, on the contrary, they send out indifference.

If those glossy, perfect surfaces and shapes are unfinished or broken, will they look warmer and more approachable?

Ruins show what time does to things. Time builds things. Time also ages things. They celebrate the inclusiveness and imperfection, which lighten up all kinds of souls in the city. Through the broken appearance, you can see the memories, beauty, warmth, vitality…

I want to give ruins the warmest and most powerful light. This light will shine through the ruins and illuminates those who are numb and bored with the pursuit of perfection.

behind the scene

exploration

1

Reproducing the experience of “opening a door and the light coming in from the crack between the door and its frame”.

2

Creating a lamp that could evoke curiosity and guide the action of exploring–peeling from the edge of a gap and looking inside.

3

Playing with light the way people play with puzzles, building blocks, paper folding…
